SBL Bonutti Clinic to Host Lung Cancer Screenings

October 1, 2024 2:07 p.m.

In honor of National Lung Cancer Screening Day, the Sarah Bush Lincoln Diagnostic Imaging at Bonutti Clinic will host lung cancer screenings in November.

The screenings are set for 8 am to noon Saturday, November 9, in the SBL Bonutti Clinic Diagnostic Imaging, Entrance B. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 217-238-4490. Medicare and most insurance carriers cover annual screenings for those eligible.

People who get a screening will receive a consultation prior to the screening. The test is a quick and painless scan that uses a low dose of radiation to make detailed images of the lungs. Screenings are important because the scan can detect cancer before symptoms appear, and lung cancer is easier to treat and more likely to be cured when caught early.

The scan may also show other conditions or diseases, such as early-stage heart disease or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, that need to be treated.

It’s recommended to get screened if you are:

  • 50 to 80 years old
  • Currently smoke or quit in the last 15 years
  • Have at least a 20-pack-year smoking history (one pack per day for 20 years, or half a pack a day for 40 years)

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death, the third most common cancer in the US and is “quiet” until it has spread to other parts of the body. If you are at risk, but cannot attend Lung Cancer Screening Day, ask your doctor for a referral for a lung cancer screening.

To schedule an appointment, or for more information, call 217-238-4490.
