The Charleston and Mattoon High School volleyball teams collectively raised $3,852 for the Sarah Bush Lincoln Regional Cancer Center for their annual “Volley for a Cure” game. Players sold pink and black t-shirts with breast cancer ribbons on them in advance, and pink bracelets were also sold at the door of the April 14th matchup, hosted by Charleston High School.
Mattoon High School volleyball coach, Lori Morton, said the donation brings special meaning to her. “Both of my parents went through the SBL Regional Cancer Center, so I know how important services are. The players get it too – they were telling people ‘we are saving lives,’” Morton said.
“We are so grateful that local high school sports teams invest their time and energy to support the SBL Regional Cancer Center. Thank you to the Charleston and Mattoon High School volleyball teams. The donation will be put to great use for our patients most in need,” Kim Lockart, SBL Special Events Officer, said.
